A new approach to education for young people in detention

Written by belinda on June 19, 2012

In the wake of the Ombudsman’s investigation and report into conditions at the Melbourne Youth Justice Precinct at Parkville, the facility has had to review and reconsider its approach to education.  The Ombudsman, as well as raising strong concerns around the facility’s hygiene, cleanliness and conditions, also noted that those detainees on remand at Parkville are unable to access any formal education.

Tonight on Done By Law we will be talking to Brendan Murray, Principal of Parkville College - a new education system operating at the Youth Justice Centre in Parkville.  We will also be joined by Maja Graham who has been employed as a teacher at the College for the last 6 months.
