work and employment relations around the world.
Recently our Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, has sought to persuade workers, their unions and employers to cooperate at the workplace and community levels to help Australia overcome the current economic crisis. Labour have also declared that the Howard Government’s controversial WorkChoices is dead and buried by Labor who have replaced it with their Fair Work Bill.
But what rights do workers have in a crisis where redundancy and retrenchment are a daily occurrence? What protections are in place for workers? And if workers do lose their jobs, what are their entitlements?
